| The most colourful member of the crow family, the Jay is
a shy bird about the size of a Jackdaw. Both sexes are similar in appearance
with a black and white flecked head, white throat, black moustache, pinkish-brown
body, black and white wings with blue patches, black tail with a white rump
and a pale blue iris. It is a creature of the woodland especially oak woods,
feeding on and storing acorns for the winter. However it also takes other
fruits, seeds and insects and will raid other bird's nests for both their
eggs and young. |
